Biography - Claude Martel

Claude has been a member of the Quebec-Val-Bélair Rotary Club since 2000. He first learned about Rotary when his older son decided to participate in the Youth Exchange Program by going to South Africa for a year. As soon as his son left, he joined the closest Rotary club to his work. His second son also participated in the Youth Exchange program, in Australia. Almost immediately, he took over the responsibility of the Youth Exchange Program for his club and in 2001 he joined the District team as Inbound coordinator for four years. In 2005-2006, he accepted the chairmanship of the District Youth Exchange committee for three years. He served as District Secretary for the Rotary year 2008-2009. In his club, Claude was secretary for 2 years (2004-2006) and club President in 2006-2007. As President, he immediately established the Rotary Club Leadership Plan. In 2004, his club awarded him a PHF as well as the Four Avenues of Service Citation. Claude is a Rotary Foundation Benefactor. His classification is ‘’Recreation Director’’. From 1990 to 2006, he worked as manager of private skating rinks. From 2007 to July 2010, he worked for of Québec City as Director of sport facilities. He has served on numerous boards of directors for different social and sports organizations. Claude is now retired. His spouse Francine Trudel is also actively involved in Rotary activities, in the District Youth Exchange Program as well as important partner as Governor’s spouse. Claude and Francine have two sons: Guillaume, the oldest, is working in an architect office in Montreal. Philippe, the second son is finishing his Property management baccalaureate at University Laval, in Quebec City. Their main hobbies are walking, bicycling, physical fitness, cinema, travel and music. |
